Volkswagen Transporter wins the Auto Leader poll in the “Delivery Van” category

20 February 2016

The Volkswagen Transporter T6 has taken first place in the delivery van class in the largest auto opinion poll in Poland - Auto Leader. The poll has been organized by the monthly magazine Auto Moto and the weekly Motor for the past 14 years. Selected models of the T series have been produced since 2003 at the Volkswagen factory in Poznań.

The award is an outstanding complement to Transporter’s success on the Polish market. For years, Transporter has been the leader in its class for sales in Poland. And those successes are a reason for employees of the Volkswagen factory in Poznań to be proud, since Series T cars, including the delivery version – Transporters – are also manufactured in Poznań. Since 2003, Volkswagen Poznań has produced over 300,000 series T vehicles. T6 Transporters have been rolling out since the second half of April last year, including from Volkswagen’s Poznań factory.

Since 2005, Auto Leader has been the largest auto poll in Poland. Its results depend on votes by readers and internet users. The first three editions of the poll in the years 2002-2004 were organized by the monthly Auto Moto under the name Auto-Moto Leader. The fourth edition in 2005 was organized jointly with Poland’s oldest auto magazine, Motor, which has existed since 1952. This year, more than 70,000 votes were submitted in the Auto Leader poll.

Series T cars are offered in three basic versions - as Transporter, i.e. a commercial vehicle with a panel van body, or as a spacious passenger limousine for business or private use (in Multivan and Caravelle versions), and as a recreational vehicle (California). Transporter can be adapted to specific needs by choosing from among two different wheelbases and three different body heights. When you add to this a rich assortment of engines, series T cars are available in more than 500 varieties.

There are as many as six engines to choose from - four TDI and two TSI. Depending on capacity, these work together with 5- or 6-gear mechanical transmission or a 7-gear DSG. Moreover, many versions of Transporter - depending on engine and gearbox type - can be equipped with 4MOTION four-wheel drive.

A particular feature of the newest generation of Transporter is its highly-advanced safety equipment, including for example Front Assist, optional in Transporter and standard in Multivan Business. This system uses radar to detect what is in front of the car - it can recognize when the car is approaching too close to the car ahead and - where a collision is possible - can shorten the braking distance. In dangerous situations, Front Assist warns the driver with a visual and audio signal, and if the driver fails to react, it can also lightly apply the brakes.

Since its debut in the middle of last year, the Transporter T6 has received numerous awards, including the prestigious title of International Van of the Year 2016.
